Louisville's Best Locations for Photo Sessions

One of the most common questions my clients ask is “where should we shoot our photo session?”. Louisville has some truly remarkable locations both in and around the city, each with its own unique vibe. The first question you should ask yourself is “how do I want my photos to look?”. Do you want to be surrounded by nature, or visit a place a little more modern and classy? Maybe you want your photos to have an artsy look? Once you’ve decided on a general vibe for your session, we can narrow down your options. I’ve listed some of my favorite locations below for some inspiration!

Let’s play outside:

The Falls of the Ohio

While this location is technically across the river in Clarksville, it provides a truly unique look during every season. Their rock formations, forest trails, and fossil beds provide a variety of backgrounds for us to choose from. Not to mention, the views of the Louisville skyline we can capture behind you will make for stunning photos.

The Parklands of Floyds Fork

The Parklands of Floyds Fork is a group of a few different parks: Beckley Creek Park, Pope Lick Park, The Strand, Turkey Run Park, and Broad Run Park. Each of these parks has something special to offer, from barns and silos, to fields of wildflowers.

Bernheim Forest

Bernheim Forest is another location with lots of variety. There are tons of trails, overlooks, ponds, and open fields to frolic in. Their arboretum offers a paved path for those fancier sessions where high heels might be involved, but you still want some nature vibes.

Let’s go Downtown:

Nulu The Nulu area of downtown is full of flavor and glamour! We can take a walk and enjoy the many art galleries, restaurants and bars, and other cute shops along the way.

The Highlands While this area is technically just outside of downtown, if offers a similar vibe. I love The Highlands for it’s eccentricity. It’s like being downtown, but more artsy and carefree! This is another great location to walk and take advantage of the local shops and scenery.

Old Louisville This one speaks for itself: beautiful victorian architecture (Saint James Court!), cozy courtyards, Central Park. There is are a ton of unique spots to pose, no two photos taken in this area of town will look alike.

The Waterfront This list would be incomplete without including the waterfront. A backdrop of grandiose bridges (the Big Four Bridge!), buildings, and the Ohio river. It has so much to offer!

Something A Little Different

Mellwood Arts Center

Looking for something a little more…industrial? This place has so much to offer! What was once a meat packing facility has become a home to artist studios, galleries, shops, and cafes. The exposed brick and large open spaces both inside and out offer some great spots for photography.

Keep in mind that some of these locations might require a permit. These usually aren’t too expensive, and can be added on to the cost of your session.
